Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Healing for Wellness
Healing… this can be physically, emotionally, or spiritually. In the time waiting for healing, there can be a lot of different ways of thinking come up - we can be full of doubt, fear, and uncertainty, but on the other side there can also be that sense of hope and expectancy of what the Lord will do in our body. Now, maybe you aren’t the one who needs healing but you know someone who does.
There is an event in the Old Testament from 2 Kings 20:1-11, where a man named Hezekiah was ill and at the point of death. The Lord spoke to Him through the prophet Isaiah and said “Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.” (2 Kings 20:1) When you hear the words, “you will not recover” it hits deeply, and you may not even know what to do with that information. You may think, “My life is over. Am I going to suffer? How am I going to leave my family and friends?” Or perhaps you’re experiencing something that is not life-ending but is something that may remain with you for the rest of your life. Your life may never be the same again - but praise God for that because he will use this in ways you would never even imagine if you open your heart, mind, and ears to Him.
This event is talking about a physical illness, but we also have to consider that some people are spiritually ill and are at the point of death. If this is you or someone you know, you are actually in the perfect position. We are called to die to ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Christ. “Blessed are those who are poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3) When you recognize your spiritual need, you are blessed—because in that place, you can die to yourself and run to Christ. Don’t let pride or “I got this” mentality get in the way of your healing. Because none of us have “got this”. We all need a Savior, and some of us need to “put our house in order” by putting Christ at the center of it.

The Response to Declining Health
Let’s look at how Hezekiah, who just found out he would not recover, responded to this news. “He turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord.” (2 Kings 20:2) He reminded the Lord of his faithfulness and wholehearted devotion to Him. Hezekiah then wept bitterly to the Lord. He poured out his honest thoughts and emotions to God.
God’s Response to Prayer
God spoke to Isaiah again and told him to tell Hezekiah, “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord. I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.” (2 Kings 20:5-6) Wow… Because of Hezekiah’s fervent prayer and honesty to the Lord, not only will he be healed, but the Lord was also going to answer a previous prayer that Hezekiah had - “Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone Lord, are God.” (2 Kings 19:19) Once again, look at the position of Hezekiah’s heart - “so that the earth may know that you are God.” We have been called to carry out the Great Commission, which involves building the kingdom of God. Our motives should be to build up God’s people and serve the Lord. If this is what we have been created to do and our motives are something else, really reflect on why God should heal you.
Also, note that God may speak to you through others. Although Isaiah was a prophet, God still speaks through others today to help build us up, give ideas, and lead in the direction He is calling us.

God’s Provision and Direction for Healing
Isaiah then prepared a poultice of figs. When they did that, they applied it to Hezekiah’s boil, and he recovered. A poultice of figs was used as an anti-inflammatory to skin infections and boils to accelerate the healing. God can work through the elements of His creation to heal His people. He directed Isaiah with the idea to prepare a poultice of figs immediately after telling Hezekiah that he would be healed. This is a key point to highlight: open your eyes and ears to where the Lord will direct you, because this may be the very blessing that he uses to heal you.
The second part of what the Lord told Hezekiah was when and where to go. “On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord. I will add fifteen years to your life.” Hezekiah asked Isaiah how he will know when the Lord will heal him and when he should go up to the temple on the third day from now. It sounds like Hezekiah was looking for more direction on what the Lord wanted him to do. Isaiah said “This is the Lord’s sign to you that he will do what he has promised: Shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or shall it go back ten steps?” (2 Kings 20:9) Hezekiah said: it is simple for the shadow to go forward ten steps, so he said, “Rather, have it go back ten steps.” It sounds like Hezekiah wanted to know for sure it was God telling him to go to the temple, because a shadow going backwards ten steps would be much more unlikely compared to a shadow going forward. But remember, what seems impossible, the Lord makes possible. Isaiah then called on the Lord, “and the Lord made the shadow go back ten steps it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.” (2 Kings 20:11) This is how Hezekiah knew it was God.
Remember these five steps when it comes to healing:
Prayer - Honesty and fervent prayer to the Lord.
Motives - Assess your motives, are they aligned with serving the Lord and building His kingdom by discipling others? If your motives are aligned, how can you continue to move forward in this direction of serving the Lord?
Be on guard - Open your eyes and ears to where the Lord will direct you, because this may be the very blessing that he uses to heal you.
Direction - Ask the Lord for direction, and ask him for more direction if you are still unsure of what He wants you to do.
Obedience - When He tells you what to do, do it. Do not wait.
Because of Hezekiah’s fervent prayer to the Lord and the position of his heart, God healed Him through a natural remedy from His creation.
Action Steps for Natural Healing through Christ
Write out the reason you want healing. Is this aligned with what God has created us for? If not, practice shifting this so you can serve His kingdom. If it is already aligned, pray fervently over this.
What could God be using in your life as a remedy through His creation? This could be a person or a physical remedy. Begin being aware of this so you can increase intentionality and open your eyes and ears to what God will use for your healing.
Pray that God would reveal to you when and where He wants you to go.
Create quiet time with the Lord where you give Him your honesty, requests, and praise. Cry out to Him and pray fervent prayers.
